INTRODUCTION
Rapping is a way of being creative with words and phrases usually for musical purposes. Today, rappers abound all over the world and many of them see to have a natural talent for it.
The big question is can one learn how to rap? The answer is yes. Several rappers have told the story of they took time to develop rapping skills before they became successful.
Just like poetry, rap is a great way to express yourself whatever emotion you feel; love, anger, appreciation, happiness and even sorrow.
You too can develop rap skills if you follow these steps below:
1) Focus on rhyming
Rap usually involves telling a story (either true or fiction) using patterns that create a flow.
Try to combine words that sound similar in your sentences. An easy technique is to group your line rhymes in two or more and end them with a words that sound alike. For example:
2 lines, 1 rhyming word
My mother is the greatest
She always keeps me at my best
3 lines, 3 rhyming words
When I grow up, I wanna be the president
So I can bring an end to bellayoscura casinos
all the violence
Yes, I will show these fake leaders how to run a government
Note, the rhyming words don’t have to be spelt similarly; they only need to sound similar. E.g I’m honest and Regardless sound similar even though they are different expressions.
2) Develop your own style
One thing the very best rappers have in common is a unique style. You have to search within you to carve out your own rap style.
Your style may mean you rap faster or slower than others. You may be more creative or playful. You may be a lyricist or storyteller. Whatever it is be sure to apply your natural gifts in developing and perfecting that style.
3) Write your lyrics and refine
Good rappers always move around with pen and paper. You never know when or where the hunch for a line or song will come from. Have a book of rhymes where you put down your rhymes. Even if you’re not working on a song, your book of rhymes will always be a great reference in the future.
4) Practice, Practice, Practice
A lot goes into the making of rap songs that many do not see. Rap is hard work and requires a lot of practice. You need to patiently develop your skills.
Read widely and observe what happens around you. Be conscious to express yourself in poetic ways.
Record your rhymes with an audio recorder or hook up with a producer, play back to listen to yourself and make improvements. Immerse yourself in it.
CONCLUSION
Being a good rapper isn’t just about having talent or passion for creating rhymes and telling stories, its a lot of work. So go on all out and apply yourself. You may just be the rapper the world has been waiting for.
